Mr. Adam M. Janssen is a musician, composer, and educator native to Pittsburgh, PA. He received his earliest musical training when he began playing the violin at the age of eight and subsequently added the trombone one year later. Mr. Janssen spent many of his formative years playing in local youth orchestras, attending district, regional, all-state, and all-national festivals, as well as summer festivals including Eastern Music Festival, National Symphony Summer Music Institute, and Pierre Monteux Festival.
Mr. Janssen is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University where he studied Music Performance (Trombone, Violin), Music Education, and Business Administration. Mr. Janssen completed his graduate studies at Boston University, where he completed a Master of Music in Music Education degree with in emphasis in Composition/Arranging and Urban Music Education.
Adam is currently serves as 2nd/Associate Principal Trombone of the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra and Principal Bass Trombone of the Butler County Symphony Orchestra. He maintains an active freelance performing schedule, and has performed with the Altoona, Washington, Youngstown, and Akron Symphony Orchestras. As a professional Violinist and Violist, he performs chamber music several local event ensembles. He also performs with a number of jazz/pop/rock ensembles including: Adam & the Aces Swing Dance Band, Jason Kendall Productions, and Dr. Zoot.
As a composer, Mr. Janssen writes and arranges extensively for orchestra as well as string, brass, and vocal chamber music. He has created a number of incidental performances and developed a series of educational videos on his YouTube channel. He also produces his own singer/songwriter project. His most recent release is Long Way Down, a collection of original songs that blend the genres of classical, jazz, pop, and rock.
Mr. Janssen currently teaches Instrumental Music at Shady Side Academy. He has taught in the districts of Fox Chapel, Moon Area, Propel Charter Schools, and Sewickley Academy. Mr. Janssen is also the Adjunct Professor of Brass Studies at Washington & Jefferson College. He aspires to encourage, educate, and inspire a future generation of music appreciation.
